Straight answers on MOT rules, booking, payment, and what to expect — for our customers across London, Watford, Bushey and Hertfordshire.
It depends on the size and location of the chip. A chip up to 10mm in the driver's direct line of sight (the area directly above the steering wheel) will cause an MOT failure. Outside this main viewing area, chips up to 40mm may pass. For the full official rules, see the DVSA guidance on windscreen zones. If you're unsure, feel free to send us a quick photo and we'll check it for you before your test.
A chip repair typically takes around 20 to 30 minutes. For a replacement, the installation time and compulsory Safe Drive-Away Time (SDAT) vary depending on your vehicle make, model, and the specific glass type installed. Our technician will guide you on the estimated waiting time before the vehicle can be safely driven.
You'll need to provide suitable and safe parking for our mobile technician's vehicle near your car. You're also responsible for removing all personal items, toll tags, phone holders, dashcams, dashcam wiring, and any accessories fitted on or around the windscreen before our technician starts work.

We operate on a direct-pay basis. A deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your appointment and order the necessary glass. Once the job is completed, the remaining balance is due, and we can provide an official invoice upon request.
Rain sensors, auto-dimming features, and sensor brackets mounted on the glass are carefully transferred and reattached to the new windscreen during installation.
Due to structural tension and thermal stress on panoramic and sunroof glass, cracks cannot be resin-repaired. Damaged sunroof panels require a complete replacement to maintain structural safety and a watertight seal — read more in our sunroof glass damage guide.
